A 1000 bugs (and 1 blue butterfly)

This is the fourth image from the Quickening. The flowers are plastic sprays used by the Oxford Natural History museum to show some of the bugs in a more natural environment (the whole notion of which strikes as somewhat of a paradox ) Then I have added 1000 bugs (100 different insects x 10) and 1 blue butterfly. Time consuming is somewhat of an understatement, finishing this work was a real slog!

I wanted a writhing mass that gave you a wriggly squirming feeling and hopefully I have achieved that in the centre, with the insects becoming sparser as you move further out. The one blue butterfly is perhaps an antidote to this, a calmness hovering just above the seething throng.
